We are very fortunate to live in a very safe place with a fairly low level of crime compared with other parts of the County and the Country. We are prone to see agricultural machinery or trailer thefts more than some areas for example.

The low levels of crime or apparent unusual behaviour makes events stand out even more and we are all keen to ensure that everyone is aware. As a village we are well supported by a brilliant Neighbourhood Watch system that can provide after the event notification so we can all be aware of strange events. The advice from Lincolnshire Police is that strange people or sitings can be linked to criminal behaviour and reporting (Who, What, When Where, How) can provide good intelligence to help the Police catch criminals who are operating.

Most people or vehicles reported as ‘acting suspiciously’ are entirely innocent. However it is important that you report your suspicions to the Police so that the activity can be logged and if necessary activity can be checked out. Serious crimes have been prevented due to the vigilance of the public and we can all work together to Keep People Safe.

Lincolnshire Police advise any suspicious activity is reported as soon as possible via the non-emergency line 101.

Once that is done then please share the information via the NHW. Unfortunately, information hours after an event is of less use other than to keep people vigilant but it is not as likely to stop crime.

Suspicious behaviour can be hard to define. Generally, if any behaviour gives rise to your concerns, Lincolnshire Police want to hear about it.

Suspicious behaviour can include:

An individual trying the doorhandle of multiple cars.

A vehicle driving about an area several times.

People deliberately concealing their face when seen.

Movements of industrial/agricultural vehicles at odd times of the day or night.

People on driveways or accessing gardens of houses.

This list is merely a guideline, if you have any concerns about a person or a vehicle, please contact Police on 101.

You can help Police to carry out our enquiries by providing:

If you feel safe to challenge someone – Be Polite, Ask if you can help them, ask them what they are doing. Anyone entirely innocent will tell you and provide ID if they are from a Company.

The basis for your suspicions. What are they doing?

A good description of the person(s) you have concerns about. What clothing are they wearing? Are they carrying anything? Skin/Hair colour; Height; Hair Style; Hair Texture; Shape of Eyebrow; Size and Shape of Eye; Shape of Nose; Shape of Mouth and Lips; Chin Clefts; Cheeks (full or sunken); Ear Size and Shape; Wrinkles; Neck and Adam's Apple; Moustache or Beard

The make/model, registration and colour of any vehicle involved. If you can get the registration number of the vehicle write it down or type it into your phone as soon as possible to make sure it is accurate.

The direction of travel of any person or vehicle. Where are they going? Do not put yourself at any risk to obtain information for us. Provide what you can and the Police will make enquiries. If circumstances change, you feel threatened or you witness a crime being committed contact Police immediately by dialling 999.
