Welby Village Green

Situated in the center of the village.  The green is maintained by Welby Parish Council and is host to several village events throughout the year including an annual village summer picnic and Christmas Wassailing, kindly arranged by The Welby Weekenders (see below for details on The Welby Weekenders)

The Welby Weekenders

There is an active group of organisers within Welby village called 'The Welby Weekenders' who meet regularly to organise, plan and manage a variety of village events, aimed to provide some social community fun and entertainment, and also to ensure that monies raised support the village community.

Over the last 20 years the village of Welby has held community events in farm barns, the Church, the village green, and the Crown & Anchor pub with Car rallies and Treasure Hunts, Casino Nights, a Blues Brothers evening, and Quiz nights too, all held over the last 2-3 years.

Prior to Covid-19, there have been Barn Dances at Chestnuts Farm, a Dog show, and Picnics on the green with cake competitions and live music & dancing. The Picnic is now an annual event, usually with live music and free to villagers, their families and friends. The Wassailing takes the form of singing Christmas carol's and joining in with the celebrations, perhaps with a drink, mince pies, sausage rolls and Santa, with a fun quiz. Christmas is also celebrated with a large Xmas tree on the village green since 2012.
